JAPANESE LANTERNS 2006

These lanterns are the result of a series of investigations into traditional Japanese craftmanship and its potential for contemporary applications. Using, and occasionally combining, ancient techniques such as bamboo weaving, karakami, origami, and silk screening, I developed a unique family of lamps that are both true to their cultural aesthetic, and endowed with funcitonality. This allows the contemporary Japanese user to retain a link to the past, while interacting with a modern appliance.
