DIGITAL CLAY 2009

What if a material could be manipulated both digitally and physically through a seamless two-directional interaction?

The sense of touch plays a key role in human understanding, communication,
and interpretation of the world around us. However, existing human-computer interface designs tend to exclude our tactile faculties completely, and limit our interactions to programmed interfaces. This project is an investigation into the practical possibilities, and the playful explorations that could be unleashed
through a “digital clay” that allows users to bridge the digital-physical divide through touch. Material Magic aims to challenge existing understandings of human-computer interfaces, and provoke discussion into the future of design, communication, and entertainment.
